2010 Stop 4: Tanjung Piai

Since I’ve been to the southern most tip of India and the southern most point of continental asia. I suppose I should make a trip to visit the southern most point of mainland Asia – Tanjung Piai.

Located at the…yes…southern most tip of the West Malaysian peninsular, Tanjung Piai is host to a diverse species of flora and fauna. It has been particularly popular with bird watches due to the phenomenon of bird migration, especially during the months of September…and March…PERFECT!!!

Close by is the town of Kukup, long the destination of choice for many people living in Singapore for fresh seafood. Kukup is located about 12 km north of Tanjung Piai. What was really interesting to me was the fact that Kukup started to gain significance historically because of a Singaporean Arab known as Nong Chik. It is only right, then, that it is such a big hit with people living in Singapore!

So on this trip I would love to try the seafood here…and maybe visit a kelong (fish farm on the water) if there is time…I wonder if we can get onto Pulau Kukup as well…now THAT would be really nice!

This is the final stop of our journey before heading back to Singapore via the Tuas Checkpoint. It would mark the completion of my very first circle around the West Malaysian peninsular…and I can’t wait to get there
