2011 Day 1 destinations
The whole point of going on a motorcycle adventure is to enjoy the ride. What makes the adventure sweeter are the destinations! So here are some of the destinations that we will be heading for on our first day.
The first main stop for the day will be in the town of Kluang. This town is a relatively big one in the state of Johor and is located at its very heart. While there are many attractions in and around Kluang, the main one for me is the rail coffee. Kluang has a reputation for having one of the best rail coffee in the country. To top it off, the railway station itself is a historical landmark that was in service since 1915! Needless to say, this will be our breakfast stop for the day.
The second stop for the day will be the town of Kuala Rompin. Most people would have heard of the Endau-Rompin national park and might confuse that with Endau or Kuala Rompin. In fact, Endau and Kuala Rompin sit next to the border between the states of Johor and Pahang. The border sits smack on the Sungai Endau river! Kuala Rompin’s claim to fame is not just that it is one of the gateways to the Taman Negara national park. In fact, this town is also the sailfish fishing capital of Malaysia! Unfortunately, we will not be going out to sea to sample the sport. Rather, we will be having lunch by one of the beautiful and relaxing beaches lining the east coast of the country.
Our third stop for the day will be Tasik Bera, the largest fresh water lake in the West Malaysia peninsular. This natural reserve is home to hundreds of species of flora and fauna, some of which are endangered! While this destination is a real joy to wildlife and nature enthusiasts, we will only be stopping here for a short rest before making the final push to our final stop for the day.
The final stop for the day will be the town of Temerloh, home of the Silver Patin fish. Temerloh is the second largest town in the state of Pahang. One of the main attractions in Temerloh is the Silver Patin fish. An indigenous catfish that can be found in the fast-flowing Sungai Pahang river. The town specializes in Patin dishes…they make it in many styles: Tempoyak, Asam Rebus and Bakar are among some of the more popular ones. Another interesting fact is that Temerloh sits right at the geographic centre of the West Malaysia peninsular! It would be interesting to ride through that very point if possible!
This should give you a rough idea of what the first day destinations would be like. Let me know if you know of something else that we can do or experience on our first day!
